The design for this 4 star mountain resort overcoming the constraints of the rocky terrain and the stringent site boundaries has been a great challenge. The idea was to integrate all the functional requirements of a boutique hotel into the site with the least possible ecological impact. The rooms have been placed carefully to capture the best views of the mystical landscape. The dramatically situated blocks are all about a visceral connection to the landscape. The resulting experience is a new notion of opulence that is reduced to the essential minimal definition of spaces. The architecture is intended to create harmony and balance while framing and amplifying the surrounding nature.
The chiseled house was one of our earliest renovation projects. The original house was constructed 13 years back and had used heavy ornamentation in its architectural expression. The layout had disjointed functions and lacked ventilation. We redesigned the house with a minimal architectural vocabulary based on the functional requirements. The skewed roof form is the outcome of a design process based on functional requirements and structural integrity. Layers of bamboo and other tropical planting, at different strategic points bring about passive cooling, and adds greenery to the house.
