Waft house

The middle class house in Kerala badly needs a reinterpretation. This budget house is on a small site and had a budget constraint. The client could afford the site at a bargain, as it had multiple angles and was the last plot on a sale in a villa project. The footprint left after the setbacks hardly provided any space for experimentation. The extruded built volume lacked spatial qualities for tropical living. The volume was cut to create cross ventilated spaces essential for the hot and humid conditions. The cut volume towards was extruded vertically to act as a shading device for the balconies and common areas. The landscape was added at strategic locations to enhance the quality of living.
