At NO, we are designing BIODIVERSITY parks for government schools as part of the Kerala state initiative...this one is a Girls high school in Kerala, our second project as part of the scheme after the Water garden and biodiversity park at Govt. SNDP UP School, Pattathanam... we believe this project would also bring about a change, in the system of formal education, like its predecessor, introducing kids to the natural world of plants, fishes, birds and butterflies... creating interactive spaces and teaching the kids to grow their own FOOD as part of the learning experience... it is also about EMPOWERING GIRLS by designing proper toilets, providing padvending systems and sleeping spaces, as part of menstrual hygiene management to overcome the stigma associated with PERIODS : being SOCIAL ARTISTS!
The chiseled house was one of our earliest renovation projects. The original house was constructed 13 years back and had used heavy ornamentation in its architectural expression. The layout had disjointed functions and lacked ventilation. We redesigned the house with a minimal architectural vocabulary based on the functional requirements. The skewed roof form is the outcome of a design process based on functional requirements and structural integrity. Layers of bamboo and other tropical planting, at different strategic points bring about passive cooling, and adds greenery to the house.
